From anguish to desire
I began my artistic work in photography. My images reference the Baroque, “the shadow of the rose and the tearing of the veil,” as described by Jorge Luis Borges. I have begun exploring the Baroque and its folds through the works of great masters such as Artemisia Gentileschi and Georges de La Tour. I am drawn to the theatricality with which emotions and religious scenes are presented. In my project From Anguish to Desire, I use the technique of the tableau vivant to construct Baroque scenes related to the psychoanalytic concept of anguish. Anguish is an uncertain anticipation generated by our deepest fears, such as the threat of nature, other human beings, and our finitude. Nature is present in this project as a silent witness.
